Migration from Del.icio.us

Thanks for trying Zigtag.

To help you get started we have an import (and export) utility that will let you copy your del.icio.us tags over to Zigtag.

Since you're a del.icio.us user you already understand the value of social bookmarking, but we think you'll find that Zigtag takes tagging to a new level – Zigtag uses semantic tags so there's only one definition for each tag concept.

You're probably used to using tags like "NewYork", "New_York", "New-York" etc., for a page about New York City. There are two problems with this:

1. You may tag things one way and others may use a different way so how do you find pages about New York city that others have tagged?

2. How do you know if a page tagged "NewYork" is about the city, the state, or, for that matter New York, Texas, or the U2 song New York?

Zigtag solves this using semantic tags; as you enter the tag name a type-ahead shows you all of the matching tags along with their definitions. It's precise and predictable. We think you're going to love the way it keeps your tag space clean and lets you search other people's tag spaces without having to guess how things might be tagged.

(Incidentally, since del.icio.us doesn't support semantic tags, when you import your tags into Zigtag, they will all be generic tags (i.e. without definitions). Over time you will probably discard your generic tags in favor of semantic ones, but if you want to convert them right away go to "Manage My Tags" under the "My Account" menu.)

Also, we know that you're probably used to using a bookmarklet to tag pages. We strongly recommend you use the Zigtag sidebar instead; most del.icio.us users who do never look back. Still, if you prefer using a bookmarklet instead, you can find one here.

Thanks for checking Zigtag out. We're really interested in your feedback so feel free to leave your comments at forum.zigtag.com.
